Traveling with teenagers can be a huge challenge. There’s no telling what they will want to do or see, let alone what time they will wake up! We’ve put together a few suggestions of places your teens may want to visit while in the San Diego area.
Balboa Park is a must because it’s got all sorts of options. From The Old Globe Theater to the Haunted Trail to the Natural History Museum, the park’s got you covered; not to mention the Fleet and Science Center, the Automotive Museum, the San Diego Zoo, the Air and Space Museum, the Veteran’s Museum, and the Mingei International Museum. It’s also a wonderful place to bike or walk and experience the gorgeous San Diego weather.
Downtown you’ll find the delightful Seaport Village, designed by a team from Disney! This area is right along the bay and filled with shops, restaurants, and views to die for. This is a great place to bring a teen that the whole family will enjoy.
For more outdoor fun, travel to the scenic La Jolla Cove. It is a perfect spot for diving, kayaking, and snorkeling. The water provides a safe home for colorful garibaldi, yellowtail, rays and even leopard sharks because it is clean and ecologically protected; making it an ideal spot for your teens to explore.
For a more adventurous teen, you can’t go wrong with any number of hiking trails, skydiving companies, or jetski rentals. Torrey Pines, a short drive from Winners Circle Resort, has some of the best hiking trails and most gorgeous views around. Mission Trails, a bit East if downtown San Diego, also has some great trails fit for all skill levels. If your thrill seeker is more into the indoors, take her or him to Escape Game SD. Here you’ll be locked in a room filled with clues that lead you to the key out of the room and you’ll be given 60 minutes to solve it or you lose! But don’t worry, they let you out even if you can’t solve the puzzle!
Pacific Beach houses all shops, businesses, dining, and beaches your teen could want. This neighborhood has one of the youngest demographics in San Diego county and your teen will feel right at home. If they can’t get enough shopping done here, there is always the Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley. It’s a beautifully designed mall, complete with an AMC movie theater and all the boutiques your teen loves.
If all else fails, everyone loves the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Here you can experience the park a number of ways – via cart, caravan, jungle ropes, flightline, or even spend the night for a special treat! Visit sdzsafaripark.org for more information.
San Diego has something for everyone – even the most apathetic of teenagers! 😉
